Lab Created Yellow Diamond
Lab-Created Yellow Diamond
Diamonds sourced naturally continue to attract immense monetary value as they are hard to find and maintain. Yellow-colored natural diamonds are also becoming very rare pieces in an industry with high demand for such priceless pieces. Lab-created yellow diamonds provide a decent alternative to naturally-sourced stones.
History of Lab-Created Yellow Diamond
Lab-made diamonds gained popularity in 1954 when General Electric developed the first set of stones entirely through a laboratory process. Developments in diamond-making technology have continued since that time which gave rise to the introduction of colors into lab-made stones.
How are Lab-Created Yellow Diamonds Made?
Lab-made yellow diamonds form under two (2) widely-used processes:
High-Pressure, High-Temperature (HPHT) Method
The HPHT method involves processes common to how natural diamonds form; however, this procedure occurs under a controlled environment. HPHT starts with a diamond seed within an enclosure rich in carbon-based gas. A combination of extreme temperature (>1,500°C) and pressure (>1.4million lbs per square inch) facilitates the ideal environment for a HPHT diamond.
Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Method
The CVD method also begins with a diamond seed placed in a carbon-rich chamber. Methane is a common gas used in this procedure. The gas ionizes within the chamber to form a plasma after contact with microwaving or laser technology. Using laser or microwave technology encourages the gradual formation of carbon atoms onto the introduced diamond seed. Irradiation follows after this procedure to add the yellow hue to crystals formed.
Uses of Lab-Created Yellow Diamonds
Lab-made yellow diamonds are quite appealing ornaments for different kinds and styles of jewelry. Jewelers offer these diamonds as an alternative to the rare and highly-expensive naturally-sourced options. Lab-made yellow diamonds are also ideal for various luxury decorations.

Maintenance Tips for Lab-Created Yellow Diamonds
Cleaning – remove dirt from the diamond’s surface with a soft brush and lukewarm soap water. Don’t use cleaning solutions as they may be too harsh on your diamonds and wear out its surface over time.
Storage – always store your lab-made diamonds in a soft cushion inside a secure box. Storage in such conditions provides greater protection for your diamonds and keeps them in top shape for much longer.
