Unusual Properties
The most striking feature of iolite gemstones are the pleochroism property that it has. The property is caused by an optical phenomenon by which the grains of a stone appear to have different colors when observed at different angles. The iolite gemstone exhibits very strong pleochroism that can be seen with the naked eye. It shows yellow, light blue and dark violet-blue pleotropic colors when viewed from different angles. And therefore it leaves many people wondering what color is iolite. Iolite is believed to awaken the third eye, stimulate visions and connect one with one’s own inner wisdom. It is said that it helps individuals live in the present as well. Iolite can be an excellent aid for relationship issues, whether they be occurring in friendships, coworkers, parent-child relationships, love relationships, and so on. Iolite gemstones have also been known for many years; in fact back in ancient times it was used to guide sailors on their ocean voyages.
Treatment
Green Amethyst is produced by careful heating of Brazilian amethyst. The heat treatment of Amethyst between 878 and 1382 degrees F may produce light yellow, red, brown, green or colorless varieties of stones. The result of heat treating these gems are stable so they hardly require any special care while wearing .But they should not be steam-cleaned due to their susceptibility to heat.
